"Leaves' Shadow Turns to Script"

"Leaves' Shadow Turns to Script" Series (2023)

Leaves and Paper Writing

I want to touch the world through "paper".

Through a simple yet sustained act, I seek to understand the life and vitality of trees, including those fallen, withered leaves. Paper, for me, is a vital medium for touching and exploring. In forests and countryside, when leaves wither and fall from branches, they return to the earth, becoming new nutrients for life. However, in cities, they mostly become mere trash to be disposed of. Here, I pick them up again, feeling the various forms of withered leaves as I touch them.

The repetitive actions during creation allow me to enter a space of solitude. Meanwhile, the leaves, in this repetitive process of time, gradually enter deeper stages of withering. Thoughts flow with their changes, becoming fascinating in the process. Understanding their condition helps me comprehend the various discomforts and contradictions I feel in life, and understanding their creative process helps me understand myself.

This year I explained to my mom that I create, and while she doesn't quite understand what I'm doing, she will bring me all sorts of seeds/falling leaves/plant fragments that surprise her when she's out walking as well. Thanks to the plants that continue to inspire me and bring me love with my mother, this series is also a tribute and honor to them.
